Marvel's upcoming Disney+ series VisionQuest has received largely positive early reactions after the studio surprised audiences with a screening of its first episode at New York Comic Con on Thursday.

The series, scheduled to premiere on October 14, was praised by early viewers and entertainment journalists, with several describing it as a worthy successor to WandaVision.

Demet Koc of Nexus Point News called the show a continuation of WandaVision that explores love, grief, identity and generational trauma. Koc also praised James Spader's performance as Ultron and Emily Hampshire's addition to the cast.

Another reviewer, TJ Zwarych of Agents of Fandom, praised the chemistry between Paul Bettany and Spader, describing the series as a fitting conclusion to the WandaVision trilogy. However, Zwarych noted that the story slows down in the middle.

Brandon Davis, co-host of Marvel's New York Comic Con panel, also praised the series for its creativity, ambition and emotional focus on the relationship between a father and son.

The show marks Bettany's return to a live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe role following WandaVision. In VisionQuest, he reprises his role as Vision, alongside Spader as Ultron and several other artificial intelligence characters from the Marvel universe.

The series continues the story of Vision following the events of WandaVision, which featured Wanda Maximoff creating an artificial reality in which she lived with a reconstructed version of Vision and their children.
