Prime Minister’s Political Assistant Rashed Khan has accused the banned Awami League and Jamaat-e-Islami of conspiring against Bangladesh’s interests and democracy, alleging that the Awami League is operating from Delhi while Jamaat is doing so from within the country.
Speaking to journalists at the Narayanganj District Council office on Sunday (October 11), Rashed said the two parties had previously conspired against the country’s democracy and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
He cited the 1986 and 1996 elections, alleging that the banned Awami League and Jamaat had worked to consolidate then-president HM Ershad’s hold on power. He said the people, under the leadership of then-BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, had resisted those moves.
Rashed expressed confidence that the current BNP government would also overcome any conspiracy or pressure with public support.
