Representatives of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) met BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Thursday at the party’s Gulshan office to discuss preserving the spirit of July Revolution and shaping the future of student politics in Bangladesh.

Before the meeting, the DUCSU delegation signed the condolence book for late BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

DUCSU Vice President (VP) Abu Shadik Kayem said they offered prayers for her, hoping she attains the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus.

According to Shadik Kayem, Tarique Rahman provided guidance on student participation in politics and the broader democratic movement, stressing unity among forces committed to anti-fascist struggles following the July Revolution. He highlighted the importance of cooperation among political and student organizations, including BNP, Jamaat, NCP, Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir, in rebuilding the country.

The DUCSU leader added that the youth must work together to ensure free, fair and credible elections, restore state institutions weakened over the past 16 years, and implement the ‘July Charter’.

The meeting also addressed the killing of martyr Sharif Osman Hadi, with Kayem alleging that those responsible have not been arrested and some continue to hold positions within the interim government, calling for swift legal action.

Kayem said the discussion reaffirmed a commitment to “Bangladesh-oriented” politics and resistance to external influence, reflecting the ideals of Khaleda Zia and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

He urged students to play a united role in restoring democracy, rebuilding state institutions and implementing the July Charter, including through measures such as a national referendum.
