A Dhaka court on Thursday granted a three-day remand to madrasa teacher Hafez Md Zakaria in a murder case over the death of child student Md Nayeem Sheikh in Rayerbagh.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam passed the order after a hearing. Another accused, Zubayer, was sent to the Children’s Court for a remand hearing as he is a minor.

Nayeem’s body was recovered from a third-floor bathroom of Rawajatul Ulum Hifzia Nurani Madrasa in Jorakhamba area on August 3. His mother, Nazma Begum, later filed a murder case against Zakaria and Zubayer.

The case statement alleges that Nayeem was repeatedly abused at the madrasa and was assaulted after telling his teachers that he no longer wanted to study there. It further alleges that he was subsequently killed by suffocation.

Police arrested the two accused from the madrasa the same night. They were sent to jail the following day.
