Police have recovered 45 crude bombs along with bomb-making materials from a bamboo grove in Jajira upazila of Shariatpur district and arrested four people, including three women.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint force comprising police and other law enforcement agencies conducted the drive on Monday morning with the assistance of a dog squad, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Md Tanvir Hossain.

“The recovery of such a large number of crude bombs and materials suggests an organised attempt to create instability in the area,” he said.

The operation was carried out following a deadly explosion at Mulai Bepari Kandi in Bilaspur union of the upazila on Thursday, which left two people dead.

Police said a case has been filed in connection with the incident against 53 named and 150 unnamed individuals.

Security in the area has been tightened to prevent any further untoward incidents, police added.
