DUMURIA, KHULNA, Jan 14: As severe cold wave continues to disrupt normal life, the Dumuria Upazila Administration has taken a humanitarian initiative to ease the sufferings of cold-stricken and destitute people.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sabita Sarker, accompanied by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Amit Kumar Biswas, distributed blankets among helpless and impoverished people by visiting door-to-door in different unions of the upazila early Wednesday.
The blanket distribution programme mainly targeted the most vulnerable groups, including members of ethnic minority communities, persons with disabilities, children with special needs and orphans, ensuring that genuine beneficiaries received assistance.
Speaking on the occasion, UNO Sabita Sarker said that marginalised and helpless people suffer the most during the winter season.
"Standing beside them is our moral responsibility. Along with the government and administration, affluent people of society should also come forward to help," she said.
She further emphasised the importance of collective efforts to identify and support the truly needy, urging local residents to inform the upazila administration if they notice any destitute person in their surroundings.
Local people welcomed the initiative, saying that such compassionate and people-oriented activities by the administration are playing a vital role in alleviating the hardships of cold-affected communities.
