Joint forces arrested three individuals, including a central Swechhasebak Dal leader and former leader of Jahangirnagar University’s Chhatra Dal, along with firearms in Savar early Monday.

The arrested were identified as Galib Imtiaz Nahid, Masud Rana Alvi and Robiul Awal Babu. Nahid serves as the co-organising secretary of the Swechhasebak Dal’s central committee and previously held the position of joint convener of Jahangirnagar University’s Chhatra Dal.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of joint forces officials from Mohammadpur’s Basila Army Camp conducted a drive in Talatala area of Chapain Road in Savar and arrested the trio.

Joint forces also recovered three foreign pistols, 13 locally made firearms, and a significant cache of ammunition from their possessions.

23 East Bengal Regiment commander Lt Col Nazim Ahmed confirmed the incident through a press briefing held at capital’s Bosila Camp on Monday afternoon.

Earlier in May 2010, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Nahid from a residential hotel in Savar and seized a US-made pistol, three rounds of ammunition and a magazine from his possessions.
