Import and export activities between Bangladesh and India through Benapole land port resumed on Monday after remaining suspended for seven days due to Eid-ul-Azha holidays.

Benapole Port Director Shamim Hossain said bilateral trade through the port resumed from Monday morning following the Eid vacation.

Around 3,000 workers joined their duties early in the day to facilitate cargo loading and unloading operations, helping restore normal activities at the port.

Import and export operations at Benapole land port remained suspended from May 25 to May 31 due to the Eid holidays. However, the movement of passport-holding passengers between Bangladesh and India continued uninterrupted during the period.

Benapole Importers and Exporters Association Vice-President Aminul Haque said traders, C&F agents, customs officials, port authorities and workers were actively engaged in clearing accumulated consignments.

He noted that the extended holiday had created a cargo backlog on both sides of the border but the situation is expected to normalize gradually as trade and clearance activities gain momentum.

According to port sources, import and export operations officially began at 9:00 am. By 11:00 am, a total of 39 trucks carrying imported goods had entered Bangladesh from India, while 13 trucks loaded with export items crossed into India.
