A local party office of activities banned Awami League has been opened by Patuakhali's Dashmina upazila Jubo League activists only to be closed again after four hours by Bangladesh Nationalist Party's student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists.
According to locals, the upazila party office had been damaged on 2024 July-August mass uprising and closed since then.
On Monday morning around 7 AM, a group of upazila Jubo League activists, led by organisational secretary Arif Hossain, reopened the office and held a doa mahfil on the occasion.
Photos and videos of the event quickly circulated on social media which sparked an widespread criticism among the locals and its rival parties.
Later, about four hours after it’s reopening, a group of JCD activists went to the spot and reportedly vandilised the office before closing it again.
Dashmina Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Abu Sahahdat Md Hasnain Parvez said that being informed, police were sent to the spot, but no one found present there.
