Barge sinks off Hatiya, one dead

According to Abdul Kader of Chittagong Divisional Cargo Trawler Workers' Union, MV Tanim departed from Chittagong for Hatiya at 04:00AM. When the vessel reached the shipping channel in the Bay of Bengal, west of Rohinga Char and midway between Hatiya and Sandwip; the bulk-carrier's engine broke down.

The seven others - along with Saber were rescued by fishing boats which were operating nearby.

Saber was taken to a hospital at noon and on duty doctors declared him dead. 

Nolchira River Police Outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Masud Faisal said police were not informed about the accident. However, necessary legal action will be taken after investigating the matter.
