An 11-member delegation led by Bilal Erdogan, son of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and former Germany World Cup-winning footballer Mesut Ozil visited Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar on Thursday.
The delegation, which includes Abdullah Eren, chairman of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), arrived at Cox’s Bazar Airport at 10:30 AM on a special flight as part of their ongoing visit to Bangladesh.
Upon arrival, the delegation paid a courtesy call on Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Mizanur Rahman at his office in Cox’s Bazar.
Speaking briefly to the media, Bilal Erdogan stressed the importance of ensuring the safe, dignified and voluntary repatriation of Rohingyas to their country of origin.
He reaffirmed that the Turkish government and its people would continue extending humanitarian assistance to the displaced community.
The delegation later travelled by road to inspect the Rohingya camps. During the visit, they are scheduled to tour Turkey’s field hospital in Camp 9 and the Education and Cultural Centre operated by TİKA in Camp 16.
Their itinerary also includes attending a friendly football match, the prize distribution ceremony of a Rohingya football tournament and joining the Rohingya community for the first Iftar of Ramadan.
