BHALUKA, M'SINGH, Feb 23: Amid rising market prices, a programme to sell essential commodities at subsidised rates has been launched in Bhaluka under the initiative of local lawmaker Fakhr Uddin Ahmed (M'singh-11), aiming to ease the burden on low- and middle-income people.
The programme was inaugurated on Monday at the upazila premises.
Under the initiative, funded personally by the MP and supported by the upazila administration, essential items such as beef, milk and eggs are being sold directly to consumers at prices lower than the market rate. A large number of low- and middle-income buyers were seen crowding the venue from the first day.
Speakers at the inauguration said such initiatives bring relief to ordinary people during a time of high commodity prices. They noted that programmes like this can play a positive role in curbing market syndicates and improving people's purchasing capacity.
Fakhr Uddin Ahmed said that as a public representative, his goal is to reduce the suffering of ordinary people. He added that efforts would be made to continue the programme throughout Ramadan until market conditions stabilise.
The upazila administration said regular monitoring is being conducted to ensure the smooth operation of the programme, adding that there are plans to expand its scope in the future.
