Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection (DNCRP) fined a food manufacturing company for producing vermicelli and other snack items in an unhygienic environment in Bogura’s Sherpur upazila on Sunday afternoon.
According to sources, a team of officials led by district DNCRP Assistant Director Md Mehedi Hasan conducted a drive in Barduari area and imposed a fine of Tk 2 lakh on Dolly Food Products for producing and storing vermicelli, fried snacks, nimki and monakka in a dirty and unhygienic environment.
Sherpur Upazila Sanitary Inspector Tahmina Akter and Bogura Consumers Association of Bangladesh’s (CAB) General Secretary Fazilatunnesa Fawzia assisted during the drive.
They were also producing vermicelli without the required approval from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), and workers at the factory were also found to be operating without proper personal hygiene or protective equipment.
Authorities directed the factory management to improve its environment and infrastructure within 30 days and comply with government regulations and collected the fine immediately.
Confirming the drive, DNCRP officials said that such market monitoring and enforcement drives would continue in the public interest.
