Singer Asif Akbar has been acquitted in a case filed on charge of possessing four bottles of foreign liquor in his office without a licence.
After hearing from both sides on Monday, Judge Ayesha Akter Moushumi of the Dhaka 2nd Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court passed this order.
The court acquitted Asif Akbar as the prosecution failed to prove the charges in the case.
According to the case statement, Asif was arrested on the night of June 5, 2018, in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology Act.
At that time, four bottles of foreign liquor were recovered from his office room, which were later sent to the Department of Narcotics Control for examination.
On 23 July 2018, the CID filed the case against him with Tejgaon Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act for possessing foreign liquor without a licence, and the charge sheet was submitted on 13 November 2019.
Later, on 25 November 2024, the Dhaka First Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court framed charges in the case. The court recorded testimonies from three witnesses during the trial.
