BAGHA, RAJSHAHI, Mar 12: Mango trees across Bagha Upazila in Rajshahi have burst into blossom, bringing joy and renewed hope to local farmers.
The eye-catching sight of mango inflorescence covering the trees has added to the beauty of the area, while the sweet fragrance of the blossoms is filling the air and uplifting the spirits of growers.
Farmers say the abundant flowering this season signals the possibility of a bumper harvest, provided favourable weather conditions continue. They are optimistic that the current climate will support healthy fruit development in the coming months.
Shafiqul Islam, a mango grower from Arani, said the trees have produced such a large number of blossoms that even if only 25 per cent survive, the branches may struggle to bear the weight of the fruits. "Almost every tree has produced an exceptional amount of blossom this year," he said.
Majbul Hossain of Gochar Village said mango trees are an integral part of life in the area. "Nearly every household has at least one mango tree. Even people living on others' land have planted mango trees in their yards. This year, all those trees are full of blossoms," he added.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Shafiullah Sultan said, mango cultivation offers quick returns compared to many other fruit crops. "Mango trees begin bearing fruit within two to three years, and they continue producing for many years," he said.
He also noted that the soil in Bagha is highly suitable for mango cultivation. "If favourable weather persists and there are no natural disasters, farmers can expect a good harvest from their orchards," he added.
The mango harvesting season typically lasts from May to July. Given the current abundance of blossoms and favourable weather conditions, officials expect strong production this year.
According to the agriculture office, mangoes are cultivated on 8,896 hectares of land in the upazila. Over the past decade, mangoes from the area have been exported to 10 countries worldwide, and authorities expect exports to continue this year as well.
