Authorities have set up bamboo barricades around Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital to prevent ticketless travel ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, ensuring stricter control over passenger entry.
From early Wednesday, railway officials have been conducting ticket verification in three steps--at the station entrance, before entering platforms and prior to boarding trains. Only passengers with valid tickets are being allowed to proceed.
Railway authorities stated that even if any manages to pass the first checkpoint, they are being stopped at subsequent stages if unable to show valid tickets. In such cases, passengers are required to purchase standing tickets before being granted access.
An official at the station said the step was taken in advance to maintain discipline during the Eid rush. Traveling without a ticket is a punishable offense and no exceptions are being made.
Meanwhile, many passengers are facing difficulties due to ticket shortages.
Yar ul Islam, a student at a public university, said he was unable to secure a ticket online despite repeated attempts. Though he initially entered the station, he was stopped at the second checkpoint and eventually had to purchase a standing ticket to continue his journey.
