Severe petrol, diesel shortage hits Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ, Mar 18: Munshiganj is facing a severe fuel shortage, causing major difficulties for vehicle owners, farmers, and local consumers. Most petrol and octane supplies have run out at filling stations across the district, and in some places, limited amount of diesel is being sold under police supervision.

On Monday, a visit to at least seven filling stations in Sirajdikhan and Srinagar Upazilas revealed that petrol and octane were unavailable at most pumps. While small amounts of diesel were supplied at some stations, the quantities were far below demand.

At a filling station in Nimtala, Sirajdikhan, customers were seen standing in long queues from early morning. Many reported waiting over two hours without any certainty of getting fuel. Local farmers and drivers said the shortage has caused severe hardship. One farmer said, "I have been in line for two hours. We are struggling to get fuel. I cannot irrigate my paddy fields, and the crops are drying up."

Filling station authorities said the shortage is due to insufficient supply from the depot. One official noted, "We received only 9,000 litres of diesel today. Petrol and octane were not supplied at all. The pressure from customers is high, and it is impossible to serve everyone. Police support is needed to prevent disorder."

As crowds grew at the stations, police were deployed to maintain law and order. Drivers and farmers have urged authorities to restore normal fuel supply as soon as possible, warning that prolonged shortages could severely disrupt agriculture and transport in the district.
