Woman dies in rooftop fall while rescuing pet cat

 
NATORE, Mar 25: A woman from Natore died after falling from the cornice of a third-floor rooftop while trying to rescue her pet cat in Dhaka's Shahjadpur on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Bannya Costa, 36, daughter of Sushanta Costa of Adgram area in Jonail Dharmapalli under Baraigram Upazila, and wife of Shovon Palma of Borni Tunipara in the same upazila.
She had been living with her husband in a rented house in Shahjadpur due to work.

According to her father, Bannya woke up around 7:30 am and began searching for her pet cat after not finding it in the house. At one stage, she spotted the cat on the rooftop cornice and slipped while trying to bring it back, falling from the roof.

Family members rushed her to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Her father said Bannya was deeply attached to the cat, especially as she had no children. She was scheduled to be buried on Tuesday morning at Borni Mission Cemetery.

Abul Kalam Azad, Chairman of Jonail Union Parishad, said the woman died in a tragic accident while trying to save her beloved pet.
