Mongla depot manager suspended over 12,000L fuel discrepancy

Jamuna Oil Company Limited’s Mongla depot manager Md. Al Amin Khan has been suspended after authorities discovered a discrepancy of 12,613 liters of diesel in the depot’s stock. 

The irregularities came to light during a surprise joint inspection on early Sunday, prompting immediate action and the sealing of affected tanks.

The inspection, conducted by a team of officials from Bagerhat district administration, Bangladesh Navy, Coast Guard, police and the oil company itself, revealed that the actual fuel volumes in three main tanks did not match the official records. 

Sources indicate that the mismatch, particularly the 12,613 liters excess found in one tank, is being treated as highly suspicious, with concerns that it could be linked to smuggling or other fraudulent activity.

During the inspection, depot manager Al Amin Khan was absent and temporary computer operator Faruk Hossain presented the official stock records. 

Measurements revealed that Tank 1 had 932 liters more diesel than recorded, Tank 9 contained 12,818 liters extra and Tank 14 showed a shortfall of 1,137 liters. 

Authorities noted that the discrepancy in Tank 9 was particularly significant and raised concerns about potential smuggling from that tank.

Jamuna Oil Managing Director Md. Amir Masud stated that the tanks have been sealed, Al Amin Khan has been temporarily suspended and a show-cause notice has been issued. 

He added that the matter is being taken seriously and a detailed investigation is underway.
