BHALUKA, MYMENSINGH, Mar 30: Several families in Bhaluka Upazila staged a human chain on Monday morning, bringing allegations against Meherabari camp officer of the local forest range.
The demonstration was held on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Meherabari, where participants accused officer Md Moshiqur Rahman (Manik) of misconduct and harassment. They alleged that he demanded money over land-related issues and small construction works, and threatened false cases when refused. Speakers at the programme urged higher authorities to investigate and take action against the official.
Residents expressed frustration, saying they had been subjected to repeated harassment in the name of official duties. They demanded immediate intervention to ensure justice and relief from such practices.
However, the accused officer denied the allegations, terming them "false and fabricated." He claimed that he was recently attacked by a group while on duty in Meherabari, leaving him seriously injured and under treatment.
The forest department has since filed a case with Bhaluka Model Police Station over the incident. Rahman alleged that the human chain was organised to influence the case and secure bail.
The incident has sparked tension in the area, with locals calling for urgent intervention from authorities.
