Awareness rally held in Munshiganj District to combat dengue

MUNSHIGANJ, Apr 2: A colourful rally, the inauguration of a municipal children's park, and a canal excavation programme were held in Munshiganj on Wednesday to raise awareness against dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases. 

Organised by the district administration, the programme drew participation from people of all walks of life, creating a strong atmosphere of public awareness. The rally began from the deputy commissioner (DC)'s office premises and paraded through key streets of the town. Participants called for maintaining cleanliness and destroying mosquito breeding grounds to prevent outbreaks.

Later, Munshiganj-3 lawmaker Md Kamruzzaman Ratan inaugurated the newly built municipal children's park adjacent to the DC office. He also joined in the canal excavation programme, symbolically taking part in the cleaning drive.

The event was attended by MP Kamruzzaman Ratan, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Syeda Nurmohal Ashrafi, District Council Administrator A.K.M. Eradat Manu, Municipal Administrator Mausumi Mahbub, Civil Surgeon Dr Md Kamrul Jamaddar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muhammad Musabberul Islam, BNP district convening committee member Sultan Ahmad, and officials from various departments.

Following the rally, the lawmaker and DC jointly inaugurated the excavation and renovation of Katakhali canal. Officials said the initiative aims to reduce water-logging and curb mosquito breeding, thereby strengthening dengue prevention efforts.

Participants expressed hope that such coordinated programmes would play a vital role in protecting public health and ensuring a cleaner environment in Munshiganj.
