DINAJPUR, Apr 2: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified patrols and search operations in Dinajpur to prevent the illegal stockpiling and smuggling of fuel.
BGB personnel are inspecting vehicles on border roads as part of heightened vigilance, confirmed in a press release issued by Lt Col Abdullah Al Moeen Hasan, Commanding Officer of Dinajpur Battalion (42 BGB).
The release said the battalion has adopted a firm stance amid global fuel market volatility, stepping up patrols, searches and intelligence surveillance to block illicit transfers of fuel to neighbouring countries.
Smugglers, taking advantage of rising global prices, often attempt to move petrol and octane into India using bottles and cans. To counter this, regular and special patrols are being conducted from 29 Border Outposts (BOPs), including seven under Dinajpur Battalion, as well as five special camps. Temporary checkpoints have also been set up to intercept suspicious movements.
Lt Col Hasan stressed that BGB remains committed to safeguarding the border and preventing fuel smuggling.
He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts by agencies and the public would help maintain discipline in the fuel sector and protect national interests.
He urged locals not to be misled by rumours and to immediately inform BGB if they notice any suspicious fuel-related activity in border areas.
