Human chain in Feni protests withdrawal of medical college proposal

FENI, Apr 4: A human chain was organized by Sunagarik Forum, Feni, to protest the recent withdrawal of a proposal to establish a medical college in Feni, from the Jatiya Sangsad.

The human chain also demands the establishment of the proposed college in the district.

The human chain took place on Saturday noon at the Central Shaheed Minar in the town, with participation from local people including political figures, journalists, lawyers, social organisations, and writers.

Presided over by the organization's adviser and former president of Feni Press Club, Muhammad Abu Taher Bhuiyan, and coordinated by the chief coordinator, Morshed Hossain, speeches were given at the human chain by Advocate Mejbah Uddin Morshed, APP of Feni George Court; educationist Shahadat Hossain Badol; Tarikul Islam Bhuiyan, Chairman of PRP; Shariful Islam Apu, Member of Feni Red Crescent Society; prominent social organiser Osman Gani Rasel; journalist Nuruzzaman Sumon; women leader of AB Party, Jahangir Akhtar Moni; Editor of Alokito Bangla, A M Morshed Shibli; S Alam Apu, Secretary of the Travel Agency Association; and Md Abdus Salam, General Secretary of Palli Chikitsak Samity, among others.

Speakers at the human chain said that the Prime Minister's promise made on 25 January to establish a medical college in Feni at the Feni Pilot School ground should be implemented quickly. Otherwise, the people of Feni will be forced to announce various programmes, including movements and struggles on the streets, to secure their rightful claims.
