Husband gets life-term for killing wife in Khagrachhari

A Khagrachhari court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife in Matiranga upazila of Khagrachhari district.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Chandan Kanti Nath announced the verdict on Thursday afternoon.

The convicted is Wasim Akram, 28, from Kalapani area of Gomti union.

According to the case report, Wasim strangled his wife Safia Akter ,25, to death on the night of May 24, 2017 due to a family dispute. 

Later, he tried to stage a drama by hanging her to make the incident look like suicide.

Following the incident, Safia's father Md. Abdul Hakim filed a murder case with Matiranga Police Station

The verdict was given after almost 9 years of the incident. During this time, the court took the testimony of 11 witnesses in the case.

After the verdict was announced, the defendant's lawyer Advocate Karimullah said that they are not satisfied with the verdict. They will appeal the verdict in the High Court.
