Classes and examinations at Mymensingh Medical College have been suspended and students ordered to vacate dormitories following a violent clash between two groups at a student hostel, triggering an official investigation.
College authorities also formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the incident, Principal Prof Md Nazmul Alam Khan said. According to a media statement on Saturday morning, following an emergency academic council meeting held in response to Friday night's violence, all academic activities and examinations will remain suspended for seven days.
Students were instructed to leave their hostels immediately from Saturday morning. In a separate notice, the principal announced the formation of the inquiry body.
The committee is headed by Prof Seheli Zannat Sultana, with Prof Shamimul Masud Ahmed as member and Prof Mohammad Rafiqul Hoque as member secretary.
It has been instructed to submit its report within seven working days.
The clash broke out around 9pm on Friday at the Baghmara student hostel of the medical college between two factions of the Bangladesh Chhatra Dal.
Two third-year students were injured: Md Muaz and Mir Hamidur. Students said Muaz is associated with a group led by Chhatra Dal Convenor Tanvir Abdullah, while Hamidur belongs to the faction of Senior Joint Convenor Nure Jawad Rutab. �"bdnews24
