
KHULNA, Apr 19: Administrator of Khulna City Corporation Nazrul Islam Manju on Sunday said recent deaths of children with measles-like symptoms have created concern among people, adding that the government has completed all preparations to bring children under vaccination coverage.
He said a month-long measles-rubella vaccination campaign will begin in Khulna metropolis from Monday in line with the nationwide programme and directed the authorities concerned to ensure that not a single child is left out of vaccination.
Manju was addressing an advocacy meeting with religious leaders as the chief guest at the City Health Building on Sher-e-Bangla Road in the city in the morning.
The meeting was organised by the health department of KCC with support from the Directorate General of Health Services to ensure the success of the campaign.
Addressing the religious representatives, he said they are respected members of society and people attach importance to their words. Highlighting their role in raising awareness, he sought their cooperation in motivating people at the grassroots level to bring children under measles-rubella vaccination coverage.
Under the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the "Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign-2026" will be held across the country, including Khulna city, from April 20 to May 20, 2026.
Children aged between six months and under five years will receive one dose of measles vaccine under the campaign.
Chaired by KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, the meeting was attended, among others, by Chief Engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan, Director of Islamic Foundation Bangladesh Khulna Mohammad Mohiuddin Mazumdar, SIA-M of World Health Organization Nazmur Rahman Sajib and its Divisional Coordinator Dr Arif.
