KHULNA, Apr 27: Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Prof Dr Muhammad Masud on Monday said fire safety should be considered not just a formal training issue, but an essential part of everyday awareness, responsibility and preparedness.
He made the remarks as chief guest at a day-long fire safety training programme held on the campus under the initiative of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).
Prof Masud stressed that ensuring the safety of students, teachers, officers and staff in an educational institution is both a moral and institutional responsibility.
He said such training programmes help participants gain not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills to respond quickly and effectively during emergencies.
"Many accidents can be prevented through prior awareness and proper preparation," he said, urging everyone to remain vigilant about fire hazards, follow safety rules and become skilled in using firefighting equipment.
The Vice-Chancellor also called on participants to apply the lessons learned in real-life situations, saying a safer and accident-free campus can be built if everyone acts responsibly from their respective positions.
He appreciated IQAC for organising the timely initiative and emphasised the need for regular training programmes in the future.
The programme was presided over by IQAC Director Prof Dr A.B.M. Awlad Hossain, while IQAC Deputy Director Prof Dr Md Rizvi Kaisar conducted the session.
A total of 40 teachers from different departments took part in the training.
