5 students injured as ceiling fan falls during class in N'ganj school

NARAYANGANJ, May 6:At least five students were injured, two of them seriously, after a ceiling fan fell during class at Aliganj Government Primary School in Fatullah, Narayanganj, on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred around 11:30am in a Grade Two classroom while lessons were underway, witnesses said.

The identities of two of the injured students were confirmed as Pranjal and Jahanara, both second graders. The names of the others could not be known immediately.

Md Mashiyur Reza Sajib, a former student of the school who was present at the time, said he had gone there for a visit when the incident took place. Head teacher Mahmuda Ahmed said the fan fell off during class due to the poor condition of the building.

"The school structure has been in a dilapidated state for a long time. We have already applied for a new building," she said.

District Primary Education Officer Ferdousi Begum said she was not yet aware of the incident.
"I will look into the matter and take necessary steps," she said.
