World Environment Day Observed In Dists

Stronger environmental protection, climate action stressed

World Environment Day-2026 was observed in districts on Thursday with calls for stronger environmental protection, climate action and public awareness. 

This year’s theme of the day was “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future”.
GOPALGANJ: On the occasion, the district administration and the Department of Environment (DoE) organised various events including procession, discussion meeting, tree planting, and prize distribution.

A procession was taken out from the front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Thursday morning led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Arif-uz-Zaman that paraded through various roads of the town and ended at the same place.

Later, DC Md Arif-uz-Zaman was present as the chief guest at the discussion meeting held in the DC office conference room. Additional DC (General) Shobhan Sarkar chaired the meeting, and Zilla Parishad Administrator Sharif Rafiquzzaman, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kazi Mohammad Humayun Rashid and Assistant Director (AD) of the DoE Md Mahfuzur Rahman also spoke.

After the discussion meeting, prizes were distributed among the winners of various competitions. The speakers highlighted various issues that need to be done to maintain environmental balance and ensure a pollution-free environment.
 
MUNSHIGANJ: On the occasion, the district administration organised a discussion meeting, prize distribution and tree sapling distribution programme.

The event was attended by Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-3 Constituency Md Kamruzzaman as the chief guest while Munshiganj DC and District Magistrate Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi chaired the programme.

Munshiganj SP Md Menhazul Alam, PPM and Zilla Parishad Administrator A K M Iradat Manu were present as special guests.

At the discussion meeting, the speakers emphasised on tree planting, reducing plastic use and joint efforts to protect the environment to combat the effects of climate change. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of the painting competition and saplings of different species of trees were distributed among the attendees.

PABNA: DC Aminul Islam inaugurated the day’s programmes by releasing balloons and planting trees on the DC office premises in the morning. 

Later, a discussion meeting was held in the DC office conference room chaired by Additional DC Moniruzzaman while Pabna Press Club President Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar and AD of the District DoE Md Yusuf Ali spoke as the special guests. 

Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Abul Kalam Azad, Police Inspector (Crime) Mohammad Saidur Rahman, Brickyard Owners’ Association President Jahangir Alam, General Secretary Sirajul Islam and BNP leaders were present at that time. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of various competitions.

PATUAKHALI: On the occasion, the district administration and the District DoE organised a rally, discussion meeting and award distribution. 

A colourful rally started from the front of the DC office in the morning and ended at the starting point after going around various roads. After the rally, a discussion meeting was held in the DC office conference room chaired by Additional DC (General) Masud ul Alam and moderated by District DoE AD Lovana Zaman while DC Dr Mohammad Shahid Hossain Chowdhury was present as the chief guest. 

ASP Apu Sarwar, District Secondary Education Officer Md Mujibur Rahman, Civil Surgeon’s representative Medical Officer Dr Md Ziaur Rahman, President of Patuakhali Press Club Md Zakir Hossain and others were present as special guests.

Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of the drawing competition organised on the occasion of the day.

PIROJPUR: To mark the day, the district administration and the DoE jointly organised a rally and a discussion meeting on Thursday morning. 

A rally was brought out from the circuit house premises that paraded the main roads and ended on the DC office premises. 

Later, a discussion meeting was held at Shahid Abdur Razzaque-Sayed Memorial conference room chaired by DC Abu Sayeed and attended by Additional DC (General) Md Alauddin Bhuiyan Jony, BNP Member Secretary SM Saidul Islam Kismat, valiant freedom fighter Abdur Razzque Munan and TIB representative Shah Alam. 

AD of the District DoE Nikhil Chandra Dhaly delivered the welcome address. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of various competitions.

RAJBARI: On the occasion, the district administration and the District DoE jointly organised a discussion meeting at the DC office conference room on Thursday chaired by Additional DC (General) Tarif Ul Hasan.

DC Afroza Parveen spoke as the chief guest at the event. She said that protecting the environment is not the sole responsibility of any government institution; it is the collective responsibility of the state, society and every citizen. 

Effective initiatives must be taken now to prevent climate change, river erosion, temperature increase, air and water pollution and loss of biodiversity. She emphasised on eco-friendly living, tree plantation and proper use of natural resources to build a liveable and safe world.

Speaking as a special guest, SP Mohammad Manjur Morshed said that it is very important to increase public awareness about polythene along with enforcing laws to protect the environment. Along with the administration, the common people must come forward to prevent any activities that harm the environment. 

Representative of the District CS Dr Md Nurul Islam said that the negative impact of environmental pollution on human health is gradually increasing. Many diseases can be prevented if clean air, safe water and a healthy environment are ensured. 

AD of the District DoE, Parvez Ahmed, delivered the welcome speech at the event. In addition, Assistant Commissioner Md Raihanul Islam, Rajbari Zilla School Head Teacher (Acting) Md Manjurul Islam and others spoke at the event.

Earlier, a colourful rally led by the DC started from the district office premises and ended at the same place after parading through important roads of the town. The event ended with the distribution of prizes among children.

SHERPUR: On the occasion of the day, a colourful rally from the District Collectorate premises toured the important roads of the town at 10:30 am on Thursday.

Later, DC Hafiza Jasmine spoke as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organised at the DC office conference room.

Additional DC (General) Md Shakil Ahmed chaired the meeting. Other speakers included SP AKM Zahirul Islam, AD of the District DoE Hedayetul Islam, former convener of the District BNP Adv Sirajul Islam, Joint Convener Awal Chowdhury, President of Sherpur Press Club Kakon Reza, President of the District Diabetes Association Razia Samad Dalia, etc.

The speakers emphasised on raising awareness to prevent plastic pollution and encouraging the use of alternatives to plastic.

At the end of the event, jointly organised by the district administration and the District DoE, the guests distributed crests, tree saplings and certificates as prizes among the winners of the essay and children's and teenagers' drawing competitions.
