Educational institutions across the country are gearing up for a lengthy hiatus as Eid-ul-Adha and summer vacations approach.

According to 2026 academic calendar issued by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, formal holidays are scheduled to commence on May 24. However, since May 22 and 23 fall on the weekend (Friday and Saturday), students will effectively begin their break after classes conclude on Thursday, May 21.

The duration of the break varies slightly across different educational tiers, primary, secondary, and technical institutions will remain closed from May 24 to June 4, with the weekends students in these sectors will enjoy a continuous 16-day break, classes resuming on June 7.

Madrasas students (including Alia, Dakhil, and Kamil levels) will benefit from an even longer holiday. Their vacation extends until June 11. Including the subsequent weekend, madrasas will reopen on June 14, totaling a vacation period of approximately 23 days.

The academic calendar traditionally synchronizes summer mid-term breaks with one of the year’s major religious festivals to provide students relief from the summer heat and allow families to celebrate together.

Following the reopening in June, the next phase of significant holidays will occur in July and August. Notable upcoming dates include Ashari Purnima on July 29, July Mass Uprising Day on August 5, Akhari Chahar Somba on August 12 and Eid-e-Miladunnabi on August 26.

Additional breaks for Janmashtami and Fateha-i-Yazdaham are also scheduled for September.
