Tk 450cr mango, litchi likely to be produced in Natore

NATORE, May 13: Natore District Administration and the Agriculture Department expressed hope that mango and litchi worth Tk 450 crore will be produced in the district this season. 

This information was given in a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Asma Shahin regarding fruit collection, preservation and marketing in the DC office conference room on Monday.

The meeting informed that of the Tk 450 crore mangos and litchis, 68,673 metric tons of mangos worth Tk 350 crore, and 7,540 metric tons of litchis worth Tk 100 crore will be produced.
 
According to the schedule, Ati mango can be collected from May 15, Gopalbhog from May 25, Ranipachhando and Khirsapat from May 30, Lakkhanbhog from June 5, Langra and Fazli from June 15, Mohanbhog and Haribhanga from June 25, Fazli from June 30, Mallika from July 5, BARI-4 from July 15, Ashwina from July 20 and Gourmati from August 10. On the other hand, Mozaffar litchi can be collected from May 17 and Bombay-China litchi can be collected from May 25. 

The DC Asma Shahin said that the district administration will monitor the activities for the sake of the consumers so that they can enjoy the fruits without difficulties. "Every upazila administration will monitor the matter time to time and communicate with growers, traders and transport authorities. If anyone violates the decisions, they will be brought under punishment," she added.

In this connection, Deputy Director of the District Department of Agricultural Extension Agriculturist Habibul Islam Khan said, "This time mango has been cultivated on 5,693 hectares of land and litchi in 887 gardens in the district." 

Among others, ADC (General) Abul Hyat, and mango farmers, traders and journalists were present in the meeting.
