A Rohingya man was shot dead in what authorities said was a clash over dominance and internal disputes at the Nayapara Registered Rohingya Camp in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Hasan Ahmed, also known as Kala Hasan, 45, son of Sultan Ahmed and a resident of Shed no 634 under Block H of the camp.

The incident took place around 10:00 PM on Thursday, said 16 Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Commander Mohammad Kausar Sikder on Friday morning.

According to APBn officials and local sources, a group of armed Rohingya men led by Saddam opened fire on Hasan Ahmed following a previous enmity linked to dominance over camp activities, including committee-related control.

Police said Hasan was called to a meeting on the pretext of discussing camp committee and mosque-related matters. Later, 6 to 7 armed assailants, who had been lying in wait, opened indiscriminate fire on him. He was hit on the right side of his chest and critically injured.

Later, locals rescued him and took him to a camp-based health facility, from where he was referred to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex. He died on the way due to excessive bleeding.

Following the incident, a team of Nayapara APBn rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control. Later, Teknaf Model Police visited the spot, prepared an inquest report and sent the body for autopsy.

Hasan Ahmed was previously associated with an armed group known as “Jakir Group” and had multiple cases pending against him, including charges related to arms possession, robbery preparation and abduction, added officials.
