A Rohingya man was shot dead by unidentified individuals in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf upazila on Thursday night.

The incident took place at Nayapara Registered Rohingya Camp in the upazila.

The victim was identified as 45-year-old Hasan Ahmed, also known as Kala Hasan, son of Sultan Ahmed and a resident of H-Block within the camp.

The commanding officer of 16th Armed Police Battalion (APBn), Additional DIG Mohammad Kawsar Sikdar, confirmed the incident on Friday.

According to police and local sources, a group of armed attackers opened fire on Hasan in his block and fled the scene immediately. Local residents rescued the critically injured Hasan and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Upon receiving the report, APBn personnel arrived at the location and launched an operation to apprehend the perpetrators.

However, the gunmen had already escaped into the surrounding areas. Police have since recovered the body and sent it to the Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Authorities stated that additional security measures have been implemented to maintain order within the camp.

Additional DIG Kawsar Sikdar noted that while the situation is currently stable, law enforcement agencies are conducting ongoing raids to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.
