The Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) issued a strong condemnation on Saturday following an outbreak of violence and vandalism at the historic Shah Ali shrine in Mirpur, urging the administration to conduct a thorough and unbiased probe.

According to a party statement, the late-night assault on Thursday--carried out by a group of men who stormed the Mirpur-1 shrine to vandalize the property and attack visitor--represents a breakdown in law and order.

The NCP warned that such targeting of religious and historical landmarks poses a serious risk to social cohesion, public safety, and the long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence.

The Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of the NCP called on law enforcement to immediately identify and prosecute those responsible, stressing the need for proactive security measures to deter future attacks on sensitive sites.

The party’s leadership underscored that shrines like the century-old Shah Ali Bogdadi shrine are more than just religious venues; they serve as inclusive cultural and social hubs that welcome individuals from diverse faiths and backgrounds. These spaces, the NCP noted, have historically symbolized mutual respect and human connection within the national fabric.

The statement further urged the government to implement permanent solutions to ensure mazar premises remain secure and welcoming for devotees and tourists alike.

In a show of solidarity, NCP Senior Joint Convener Ariful Islam Adeeb and Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar visited the site on Saturday to consult with shrine officials and assess the damage firsthand.
