Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and Netrakona-1 lawmaker Barrister Kayser Kamal on Friday said honesty is essential for building an ideal and developed nation free from corruption.
“Without honesty, it is impossible to build a disciplined and prosperous nation,” he said while addressing a reunion programme organised by the alumni association of Kolmakanda Al-Jamiatul Islamia Fazil Madrasa in Netrakona.
Expressing his commitment to establishing good governance and a corruption-free society, the deputy speaker said, “As long as I remain your elected representative, I promise that no form of corruption will ever touch me.”
At the beginning of his speech, Kayser Kamal became emotional while recalling his family’s deep connection with the madrasa and the surrounding area.
“This place is full of memories for me and was very dear to my late father. Our land and an orphanage are located nearby. Coming here makes me emotional,” he said.
During the event, the deputy speaker received a crest of honour on behalf of his late father and thanked the organisers. He also fondly remembered N Akand Kamil Madrasa established in Netrakona in line with his grandfather’s name.
Speaking on development, justice and good governance, he said his leadership aimed not only to speak about justice but also to establish it in practice.
“I can say before Almighty Allah that not even a single taka or a grain of rice has been misused in the distribution of state facilities here,” he added.
Warning those involved in smuggling and illegal earnings in border areas, Kayser Kamal said all unlawful wealth and activities were being witnessed by Allah.
“You may be feeding your family with illegal income and constructing buildings, but everything can disappear within a moment. In the end, our final destination is only three and a half hands of soil,” he said.
He also recalled a historic quote of the first Caliph Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA), saying, “Support me when I do good and correct me when I make mistakes.”
The reunion programme was chaired by Alumni Association Convener and teacher Md Abul Hashem. Reserved seat lawmaker Nazmun Nahar Nilu attended the event as special guest.
Referring to her as the “daughter-in-law” of the area, the deputy speaker asked the audience to welcome her with applause.
Among others present were Deputy Inspector-1 of Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board Md Akram, Kolmakanda UNO SM Mikail Islam, Kolmakanda Government College Principal Sukumar Chandra Bonik, Upazila BNP President MA Khayer, officer-in-charge (OC) Md Abul Hashem and acting principal of the madrasa Md Habibur Rahman.
Former students and current learners participated in the reunion, creating an emotional and festive atmosphere.
The deputy speaker urged present students to follow the ideals of successful alumni, including National Board of Revenue Additional Commissioner (Customs) Md Mizanur Rahman, and work for the welfare of the country and the nation.
