National Citizens Party (NCP) lawmaker Hasnat Abdullah said that people in Bangladesh no longer wants a statistics-driven or nominal budget rather they expect an effective public welfare oriented one.

The organizer of the party's southern region said this on Friday, June 5, 2026, at the party office in Dhaka during the publication ceremony of a shadow budget titled, “Bangladesh 2.0: Sustainable Growth through Reform, Employment, and Investment.”

Hasnat also said that in formulating the shadow budget, opinions were gathered from various stakeholders, including the country’s banking sector, business organisations, industrial entrepreneurs, economists, policymakers, consumers, and both service providers and recipients. It was prepared based on discussions and consultations with everyone.

He said, “We want to build an equitable economy where there will be no room for discrimination. At the same time, the relationship of mutual trust and accountability between the state and people will be further strengthened.”
He further added that they are committed to protecting the interests of producers alongside safeguarding the interests of consumers. Hasnat believes that sustainable development is possible only by ensuring a balance between these two crucial stakeholders of the economy.

The various aspects of the shadow budget were presented at the event, and members of the relevant team were present afterwards to answer questions from journalists.
