FIFA fines Bangladeshi player and manager over disciplinary breach

FIFA has imposed fines on a Bangladeshi footballer and team official following disciplinary breaches during a four-nation tournament held in Maldives, according to Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) sources.

The incident took place during Bangladesh’s final match in the tournament, where players from Bangladesh and hosts Maldives were involved in on-field altercations. The situation escalated after reports of physical confrontation and misconduct from both sides.

However, FIFA’s disciplinary action was taken against Bangladeshi midfielder Mirajul Islam and team manager Shahin Hasan for alleged misconduct towards match officials and opposing players. The sanctions were reportedly based on the match commissioner’s report and both individuals have been fined several hundred Swiss francs.

Another player, Al Amin, is also said to be under close disciplinary review.

The tournament, involving Bangladesh’s Olympic team, was held during the FIFA international window, making it subject to FIFA’s disciplinary jurisdiction.

BFF officials confirmed that they have received a letter from FIFA regarding the matter and have already formed an investigation committee to review the incident.

Committee chairman Zakir Hossain Chowdhury said the matter is being examined. “We are investigating the incident and will take appropriate steps based on our findings,” he said.

Meanwhile, the federation is also investigating separate allegations of misconduct involving Bangladesh’s women’s team manager Khalid Mahmud Naumi during the SAFF Women’s Championship in India. SAFF had earlier sent a complaint letter to BFF during the tournament, prompting a three-member inquiry committee after its conclusion.

Officials said investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
