NAOGAON, June 15: A colourful rally and discussion meeting were held in Naogaon to mark World No-Tobacco Day-2026.

On Monday around 1pm, a rally was brought out from the Naogaon Circuit House. The rally paraded the main road and ended at the office of the District Administrator. Afterwards, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the district administrator.

Under the theme 'Unmask the Illusions, Resist Tobacco and Nicotine Addiction', the district administration observed the day with assistance from the National Tobacco Control Cell, Health Services Division, and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Chaired by Naogaon Civil Surgeon Dr Aminul Islam, the chief guest speaker was District Administrator Mohammad Saiful Islam. Special guests who spoke included Naogaon Additional District Magistrate Anamika Nazrul, Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotics Control, Naogaon, Alamgir Hossain, and Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Munir Ali Akand, among others.

The speakers at the discussion meeting said that tobacco companies are trying to attract the younger generation by showing various temptations and luring them towards tobacco. They have introduced new products called e-cigarettes to the market. All of these are harmful to health. If a person consumes nicotine for a long time, he loses his power of judgement. Once someone becomes addicted to nicotine, he loses his sense of right and wrong. Tobacco is spreading in society due to a lack of social awareness. If religious and social values are strengthened in society, the use of tobacco will decrease.
