Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Additional Commissioner Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan has been withdrawn from his post following controversy over a viral video in which he allegedly made threatening remarks about whistleblowers.

The instruction was made in a letter signed by Additional Deputy Inspector General (Establishment) Raihan Uddin Khan from the Personnel Management-1 Branch of Police Headquarters on Saturday.

The decision came five days after the additional commissioner made the remarks during a discussion that later circulated widely on social media.

He was reportedly speaking at a meeting with local residents of Mohirbari Khalpar under Labanchara Police Station in Khulna city last Tuesday.

According to the letter, Rashidul Islam Khan has been directed to hand over his responsibilities at his current post in KMP and report to Police Headquarters by June 21.

A 25-second video clip of his comments went viral on social media, in which he was heard saying that if the identities of whistleblowers or informants were leaked, he would have the responsible officers “hanged and beaten up.”

The remarks sparked widespread criticism. Rashidul Islam Khan, a member of the BCS Police cadre, had been serving as Additional Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police.
