Dhaka University (DU) has moved to permanently dismiss Prof Ershad Halim of the Chemistry Department following multiple allegations of sexual harassment.
University investigative committee confirmed the truth of the complaints against the professor, with the Syndicate formally approving the report during a meeting on Monday.
According to a Syndicate member, committee reached a unanimous decision recommending the professor’s expulsion.
Case has now been forwarded to the university tribunal for a final ruling. While the tribunal will issue the concluding verdict, university officials indicated that the permanent removal of the professor is effectively certain.
Students initially raised concerns regarding the professor’s conduct, which eventually escalated into criminal charges.
Police previously arrested the academic, and the university administration had already suspended him from all active teaching duties pending the investigation. The final disciplinary action is expected to be ratified by the Syndicate once the tribunal completes its formal review.
