
The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking-2026 was observed across the country and elsewhere in the globe on Friday through rallies, discussions and award distribution ceremonies and with a call for greater public awareness of the harmful effects of drugs and stressing on the importance of ensuring a healthy and safe future for young people.
FENI: A colourful rally, discussion meeting and award distribution ceremony were held in the district on the occasion of the day.
The event was organised on the District Shilpakala Academy premises under the joint initiative of the district administration and the District DNC.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Monira Haque was present as the chief guest at the event and Assistant Director of the District Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) Abdul Hamid chaired the programme.
In the event, emphasis was put upon the importance of increasing social awareness to prevent the dangers of drugs and its ill effects.
At the end of the event, prizes were distributed among the winners of various competitions organised to mark the day. District administration officials, representatives of the DNC and local dignitaries were present.
HABIGANJ: On this occasion, the district administration and the District DNC organised an anti-drug rally, discussion meeting and award distribution ceremony.
DC and District Magistrate Dr G M Sarfaraz was present as the chief guest at the event. District Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Tarek Mahmud and District DNC Deputy Director (DD) Sheikh Mohammad Khaledul Karim were present as special guests. Additional DC (General) Md Moinul Haque chaired the meeting.
The speakers at the discussion meeting highlighted the dangers of drugs and urged everyone to be aware to protect the society from the scourge of drugs. They said that building a social movement against drugs and collective efforts by everyone are very important to build a healthy, safe and drug-free society.
At that time, prizes were distributed among the winners of the essay and painting competition organised to mark the day.
JOYPURHAT: On this occasion, a rally, discussion and prize-giving ceremony were jointly organised by the district administration and the District DNC.
A colourful rally started from the Ramdeo Bajla Government High School premises that paraded through the town's main streets and ended at the deputy commissioner's conference room, where a discussion and award distribution ceremony was held.
The meeting was chaired by Additional District Magistrate Mohaimena Sharmin and moderated by the District DNC DD Shakil Ahmed.
Among those who addressed the programme were Additional DC (Revenue) Bipul Kumar, Zilla Parishad Administrator and District BNP Senior Joint Convener Md Masud Rana Pradhan, Additional SP Mohammad Mahbub-un-Nabi, District BNP Convener Md Golzar Hossain, District Bar Association President Adv Abdul Momen Fakir, Public Prosecutor of the District and Sessions Judge's Court Adv Shahinur Rahman Shahin, Public Prosecutor Salamat Hossain, and Assistant Director of the 20 BGB Battalion Abdullah Al Mamun.
The speakers stressed the need for coordinated efforts by families, educational institutions, social organisations and law enforcement agencies to protect young people from drug addiction. They also emphasised raising public awareness and strengthening measures to prevent drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Prizes were distributed among winners of various anti-drug competitions at the end of the programme.
KISHOREGANJ: On this occasion, the district administration and the District DNC jointly organised day-long programmes.
A colourful rally led by DC Sohana Nasrin began from the DC office premises that paraded through the town’s main roads and ended on the DC office premises. Later, a discussion meeting and a prize-giving ceremony were held at the DC office conference room.
In her speech as the chief guest, DC Sohana Nasrin reiterated the district administration’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drugs. She emphasised the need for families to be more caring towards their children, the practice of religious and moral values, and the effective rehabilitation of drug addicts. She called for everyone’s sincere cooperation to build a drug-free society.
Among others present at the event were Acting Civil Surgeon Dr Md Nazmul Karim, Additional DC (General) Md Ishtiaque Emon, Additional District Magistrate Md Ershadul Ahmed, Additional SP (Sadar Circle) Md Shariful Haque, Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Kamrul Hasan Maruf and journalists.
PIROJPUR: On this occasion, a huge rally was brought out in the town from Sadar Upazila premises that paraded main roads and ended on the Town Club premises.
Later, the district administration and the District DNC jointly organised a discussion meeting where State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor MP was the chief guest and DC Abu Sayed was in the chair. Local MP Masood Sayedee, Central BNP Member and Zilla Parishad Administrator Principal Alamgir Hossain and SP Mohammad Monjur Ahmed Siddique also spoke.
The speakers said, “The government is committed to prevent drugs, all sorts of gambling and recover government properties from illegal occupants.” Students, teachers, political party men, cultural activists, government officials and civil society people participated in the event.

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku attended the programme as the chief guest, while DC and District Magistrate Sharifa Haque chaired the event.
The discussion, moderated by Assistant Director of the District DNC Ahsanul Kabir Bulbul, highlighted the growing threat of drug abuse and stressed the need for coordinated efforts by families, society and the administration to protect young people from addiction.
Awards were presented to individuals and organisations in recognition of their contributions to anti-drug activities.
Earlier, a colourful rally was brought out from the DC office premises that marched through the town's major roads before returning to the starting point.
