Bangla Academy seminar highlights literary legacy of Abul Hasan, eminent writers

A seminar held on Saturday at the Bangla Academy’s Syed Waliullah Auditorium underscored the enduring literary significance of poet Abul Hasan and other prominent figures in Bangla literature, with speakers calling for deeper academic engagement with their works.

The event, organised under the Bangla Academy’s Seminar Series 2025�"26, paid tribute to poet Abul Hasan, acclaimed fiction writer Akhtaruzzaman Elias, translator and scholar Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid, and children’s writer Foyez Ahmad. Speakers described Abul Hasan as one of the most influential voices in modern Bangla poetry. They said his works continue to resonate with readers for their sensitive portrayal of human emotions, social realities, and the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh. 

The discussion also highlighted the literary contributions of Akhtaruzzaman Elias, who was described as a master storyteller whose novels and short stories authentically depict the lives of people in Old Dhaka and rural Bengal.
