Monday marks the fifth death anniversary of legendary Bangladeshi playback singer Andrew Kishore, whose timeless songs continue to resonate with audiences across generations.
Known as the "Playback Emperor," Andrew Kishore died of cancer on July 6, 2020, at the age of 64, leaving behind a rich musical legacy spanning more than four decades.
During his career, he recorded more than 15,000 songs, making him one of Bangladesh's most prolific playback singers. Many of his songs, including Hayre Manush Rongin Fanush, Amar Sara Deho Kheyo Go Mati, Dak Diyachen Doyal Amare and Shobai To Bhalobasha Chay, remain enduring favourites.
Born in Rajshahi on November 4, 1955, Andrew Kishore began formal music training at the age of six. He made his playback debut in the 1977 film Mail Train under composer Alam Khan, while his breakthrough came with the song Ek Chor Jay Chole from the 1979 film Protigga.
Over his distinguished career, he won the Bangladesh National Film Awards eight times, along with numerous other honours, including Bachsas Awards and Meril-Prothom Alo Awards.
Five years after his passing, Andrew Kishore remains one of the most celebrated voices in Bangladeshi music.
