Sonargaon's B.R. Bilkis named best head teacher in Bangladesh

B.R. Bilkis, head teacher of Bhatpur Model Government Primary School in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, has been named the Best Head Teacher (Female) in the country under the National Primary Education Award Competition 2026.

The results of the national competition were announced on Saturday.

Before receiving the national recognition, Bilkis had been selected as the Best Head Teacher in Sonargaon Upazila 12 times, the Best District Head Teacher in Narayanganj eight times, and the Best Divisional Head Teacher in Dhaka Division on four occasions.

Following her achievement, congratulations poured in from Narayanganj-3 MP Azharul Islam Mannan, Sonargaon Upazila Nirbahi Officer Asif Al Jinat, the Upazila Teachers' Association, and various social, cultural, and political organisations.

She is scheduled to receive the award formally from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the capital on July 15.

Expressing her gratitude, Bilkis said, "The encouragement, love, and support of everyone have brought me to this position. I am deeply grateful to all. I will continue working to improve the quality of education in the country."
