Uber, Bangladesh's leading ridesharing app, recently announced the launch of its services in Sylhet, marking another milestone in the company's continued expansion across the country.
Residents and visitors can now request rides through the Uber app, while drivers in the city will have access to flexible earning opportunities.
The launch brings Uber's reliable, convenient, and affordable mobility solutions to one of Bangladesh's fastest-growing cities, making it easier for people to move around Sylhet while supporting local economic opportunity through flexible work, says a press release.
"Sylhet is one of Bangladesh's most dynamic cities, and we're excited to bring Uber's reliable mobility platform there while creating flexible earning opportunities for drivers," said Redwan Rezvi, Country General Manager of Uber Bangladesh.
"Uber's entry into Sylhet will boost urban mobility, strengthen the city's tourism and business sectors, and create jobs for local drivers," said Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury.
Speaking at the launch, Brent T. Christensen, US Ambassador to Bangladesh, said Uber's launch in Sylhet reflects confidence in the city and Bangladesh's future. He said the expansion combines American technology with local needs, creating earning opportunities for Bangladeshi drivers while offering consumers more transportation choices.
Uber first launched in Bangladesh in 2016 and has since expanded its footprint across multiple cities and divisions in the country. Previously, only Uber Moto and Uber Rentals were available in Sylhet.
