Higher secondary students from several colleges in the capital have announced a protest programme demanding the resignation of Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon, alleging that HSC candidates suffered due to the decision to hold examinations amid severe flooding and waterlogging.
According to campaign posters shared on social media, the protest is scheduled to begin at 11:00am on Tuesday at the Science Laboratory intersection and march towards Shahbagh.
The students have put forward three demands: suspension of HSC examinations until the disaster situation returns to normal, a fresh opportunity for candidates who could not attend the July 13 exam due to adverse weather, and the education minister’s resignation within 24 hours.
However, Dhaka College HSC candidate Walid Hasan Rahim said it remained uncertain whether the protest would actually take place.
“We are not sure if the movement will happen. It may or may not. Different groups are involved, but they are not organised. If it takes place, we will support it,” he said.
