Pakistani envoy meets DU VC, upgrades Urdu Dept infrastructure

Pakistani High Commissioner Imran Haider met with Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A B M Obaidul Islam at the latter’s office on Tuesday to discuss bilateral academic cooperation.

Bilateral talks focused on promoting joint research collaboration, enhancing educational cooperation, and expanding faculty and student exchange programs between institutions of higher learning in both countries.

During the meeting, High Commissioner Haider briefed the Vice-Chancellor on the growing interest among Bangladeshi students in the Allama Iqbal Scholarships offered under the Pakistan-Bangladesh Knowledge Corridor initiative.

Both sides affirmed that educational cooperation remains a critical foundation for building mutual understanding and strengthening longstanding ties between the peoples of both nations.

Following the meeting, High Commissioner Haider and Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Islam jointly inaugurated a new computer lab and renovated classroom facilities at the university's Urdu Department, sponsored by the High Commission.

Speaking at the inauguration, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Islam noted that the Urdu Department established on July 1, 1921, stands as one of the institution's oldest departments, and expressed appreciation for the High Commission's support toward upgrading its infrastructure.

In his remarks, High Commissioner Haider praised the university for preserving its Urdu Department and expressed confidence that educational and cultural ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh will continue to grow.
