Prof Abu Sadat Sayem joins as CUET VC

CHATTOGRAM, July 31: Professor Dr Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem has joined as the new Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET).

He assumed office as the seventh Vice-Chancellor of the university on Tuesday afternoon.

Before his appointment, Dr Sayem served as a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and was also the head of the Department of Petroleum and Mining Engineering at CUET.

Teachers from all departments welcomed the new Vice-Chancellor with flowers at the joining ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sayem said, "We all want to take our beloved CUET far ahead. We need everyone's cooperation to build CUET into a world-class education and research institution. Let us move forward as one CUET family, with everyone contributing from their respective positions to the university's progress." Outgoing Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, along with the university's deans, directors, department heads, office heads and branch heads, was present at the ceremony.

The Ministry of Education announced Dr Sayem's appointment through a notification signed by Kazi Nurul Islam, Joint Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, on Monday.

According to the notification, with the approval of the President, who is also the Chancellor of the university, Dr Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem, Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at CUET, was appointed Vice-Chancellor under Section 10(1) of the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology Act, 2003.
