Dhaka-C’Bazar to get another train pair this month: Habibur Rashid  

COX'S BAZAR, Aug 1: State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid Habib on Saturday said another pair of trains will be introduced on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar route later this month as part of the government's efforts to improve rail connectivity to the country's premier tourist destination.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the Cox's Bazar Iconic Railway Station and Ramu Junction, the state minister said the government also plans to appoint a private operator to manage the iconic station and bring it into full operation.

"The Cox's Bazar Iconic Railway Station will not just be a railway station; it is being developed as an international-standard, tourism-friendly rail hub," he said.

He said the government has taken initiatives to expand railway connectivity across the country.

"The dual-gauge railway network from Panchagarh to Cox's Bazar and from Dhaka to Sylhet will be implemented during the tenure of this government," he said.

During the visit, the state minister inspected different sections of the station and reviewed passenger services, infrastructure, cleanliness, security and ongoing operations.

He also exchanged views with railway officials and instructed them to expedite the station's full-scale operation while ensuring international-standard passenger services.

Cox's Bazar Sadar MP Lutfur Rahman Kajal, who also serves as fisheries affairs secretary of the BNP's central executive committee, along with senior officials of the Ministry of Railways and the district administration, accompanied the minister during the inspection.
