SIRAJGANJ, Aug 3: Two housewives were killed in two separate villages in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj οΏ½" one over hotchpotch not being cooked properly, and another over a dowry demand.
The victims are Salma Khatun, 35, and Mim Khatun, 16. Police recovered their bodies and sent them to Sirajganj Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
Salma Khatun was the wife of Md Abdul Jalil of Khuknipara, Nadosaidpur Village, under Magurabinod Union in Tarash Upazila. Mim Khatun was the wife of Md Hasem Ali of Harisona Village, under Talum Union in the same upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Tarash Police Station Md Habibur Rahman said that around 11am on Monday, Abdul Jalil's wife cooked khichuri for breakfast. Not liking the taste, Jalil argued with his wife and beat her. Shortly afterwards, she was found hanging from a ceiling fan. Family members rushed her to hospital, but she died on the way.
In the other incident, Mim Khatun married Hasem Ali of Harisona Village, Talum Union, five months ago. Soon after the wedding, Hasem Ali began mentally and physically torturing his wife over dowry demands. On Sunday night, an altercation took place between them.
